The Easiest Way To Learn Spanish?

by Sharon on November 16, 2011

There is one sure way to guarantee that you speed up your Spanish learning and that is to ask yourself one important question. Can I re-use what I am learning here, quickly and repeatedly?

If the answer to this question is ‘No’ move on to something that is at your level and relevant to you.

In this way your Spanish will not only improve in leaps and bounds but you will be absolutely sure it stays in your long term memory. The next step is just as obvious..Repetition!

Yes that’s really all there is to it. No blindingly new revelations but rather the oldest trick in the book that never lets you down… Repetition, Repetition, Repetition!

In fact, aprovecho cada momento aprender algo nuevo. I make the most of every moment to learn something new.

Even better, aprovecho la oportunidad encontrar con mis amigas y aprender nuevas frases. I make the most of the opportunity to meet up with my girl friends and learn new phrases.

You may have heard the phrase,’ Buen provecha’ which has the same meaning as the French bon appétit and means ‘enjoy’ or ‘ your good health’. Buen provecha you will have heard time and again when the Spanish bid each other an enjoyable meal.

So if aprovechar is used to express taking advantage of or making the most of a thing or a moment in time, how can it be used in our daily situations?

Well you can make the most of your time or you can take advantage of a situation which makes these easy to remember Spanish phrases easily slipped into any conversation.

I know when I meet with new Spanish learning friends one of the questions that often gets asked is how long have I been learning Spanish?

? Cuantos años llevas aprendiendo español? How many years have you been learning Spanish? I would reply,

Llevo aprendiendo español tres anos y aprovecho la oportunidad escuchar las lecciones españoles audios en el coche.

Just briefly, do you recognise the verb llevar?

Llevar is one of those extremely well used and versatile verbs which can also be used very easily to express how long you have been doing something.

So by finding ways to introduce these short cuts  into your conversation will help to make your Spanish sound colloquial, they really are little gems that are well worth getting to grips with.

Let’s go back to aprovechar for a moment.

Siempre aprovecho el tiempo libre buscar la manera más fácil aprender español en el internet. I always make the most of my free time to look for the easiest way to learn Spanish online.

When you are chatting  aprovechar can be used naturally to keep the flow of a conversation going, all you need to do is practise the ideas that fit your life before hand so that they roll of the tongue with ease.

Relating your conversation to your everyday life is great practise. Even though you may sometimes feel a little bored of repeating yourself it’s an easy way to learn Spanish that you definitely won’t forget.

If like me you also remember the situation surrounding the conversation you may find that all these prompts and tips combine to really support your learning experience.

Think back to a recent Spanish learning situation. Who said what? Who was wearing what or holding whatever in their hand? Find any trigger that helps recall the moment and therefore the phrase. I find this to be most useful as I’m clearly a visual learner.

Have you overlooked this? It’s worth a thought. I remember sitting in the hairdressers in Albuñol in southern Spain when the door opened and a lady asked Maria my hairdresser, ¿Tienes hora?

We would say something along the lines of, have you got any appointments free? I have never forgotten ‘tienes hora?’ to this day because I remember everything about the situation…

Including my nerves jangling under the wet towel on my head and the water dripping into and around my ears!

After all you have to make the most of each and every opportunity to learn Spanish don’t you?

¿Tienes que aprovechar cada oportunidad aprender español.. verdad?

I know you will find aprovechar useful so slot it into your daily practise so that you’re ready to use it when the moment arises. And it will of that you can be sure! Remember, the easy way to learn Spanish is? Repetition!

Happy Learning,

Sharon
