Yes, You Can Learn Conversational Spanish

by Sharon on October 19, 2011

Most people who start learning Spanish end up quitting. Why? Well because most classes, books and courses teach you absolutely everything. When really, most people just want to learn conversational Spanish.

They want to be able to communicate with Spanish people and just “get by” in Spain. Unfortunately most courses overwhelm you with endless grammar, verbs and other gibberish that just exhausts you.

So I’m here to tell you that you can learn conversation Spanish. And you can do it without getting frustrated with endless verbs, tenses and pathetic grammar. You can certainly learn conversational Spanish and make new friends, both Spanish and English along the way too. Let me show you how.

I am not a teacher and am not setting out to ‘teach’ you in the traditional sense of the word ‘teaching’. Rather to show you how I learn conversational Spanish to this day and how you can learn conversational Spanish free.

It can be so exciting and it can also feel embarrassing at times too if you don’t find your sense of fun and stop taking yourself too seriously.

If you have spent time in Spain you’ll know by now how friendly and generous with their time the Spanish are. This is why I want to pass to you what I have found to be the best way to learn conversational Spanish.

It cuts the need to be perfect. It stops you from feeling down when you just can’t think quickly enough. Been there? Recognise the feeling of panic setting in? Me too!

It can be so painful to look up and realise that your audience has engaged in conversation with someone because you were taking too long to scroll through your mental verb tables.

Oh, how the panic rises when you feel your face flush, your temperature soar, your tongue tie…and worse. I have even managed to garble a word made up on the spot, half Spanish half English!

Was this embarrassing? Well yes it was but more than that it was hilarious because the look on the face of the guy I was trying to greet really said it all.

He burst out laughing and I tripped up the step in front of me in surprise which made the whole thing even more ridiculous. Thank goodness I was with my mum-in-law.

We were able to laugh and the perceived seriousness of the situation simply dissolved. In recounting the tale to our children that night they sighed and said, ‘… Oh mum, only you!’

Actually it has been situations just like this one… and yes there have been many, that show me that the best way to learn conversational Spanish is to not take yourself too seriously or at the very least, it’s a part of learning a language that is well worth remembering.

If you want to learn conversational Spanish free, it all out there and can be far more fun than you think.

Take a look through my previous Blogposts to get a taste of exactly how to learn conversational Spanish without beating yourself up. Make yourself a coffee and take ten minutes to read about my experiences.
