Some Useful Spanish Phrases To Get You Talking

by Sharon on January 3, 2012

Your Spanish will feel so much more fluent or sound more colloquial with a few easy to remember and importantly, extremely useful Spanish phrases.

So I want to share with you a couple ideas that you can readily use.

So you’re off to Spain and want to spend some shopping time browsing the markets or enjoying a few sightseeing tours.

‘Estas pensando en ir de compras – You’re thinking about going shopping.’

You can use this Spanish useful phrase so easily by adapting  it like this.

‘Estoy pensando en comprarme un sombrero – I’m thinking about buying myself a sunhat.’

useful Spanish phrases

You will feel so much more comfortable if you can practise before you leave for Spain but don’t overwhelm yourself by trying to learn too much, it can be so muddling.

Always look for ways to use the sentences and phrases you have learned.

That way as you bump into your Spanish friends in the calle you can slip your new phrase comfortably into conversation. Clever you!

How about …

‘Estamos pensando en nadar a la playa esta tarde – We’re thinking about swimming at the beach this afternoon.’

See how easy it is? Have a go.

¿Estas pensando en comer en un restaurante despues de la playa?- Are you thinking about eating in a restaurant after the beach?

It’s a great trick to learn some useful phrases in Spanish that you can re-call easily and re-use often. With plenty of practice you stand more chance of adding to your growing list of vocab and so becoming a little more confident.

Let me leave you with another nice easy phrase.

‘Tengo que comprar un regalo de boda para mi amiga. ¿Qué me recomiendas?- I have to buy a wedding present for my friend. What can you recommend?’

Or how about,

‘¿Tienes que ir? – Do you have to go?’

In fact Tienes que look for ways to make your Spanish useful at all times. Don’t spend time learning words you may never use again, It’s simply a waste of your energy and when you can’t remember the words you tried so hard to remember you’ll become frustrated and despondent.

‘Tengo que cambiarme antes de salir esta noche porque voy a una fiesta de cumpleaños.- I have to get changed before I go out tonight because I’m going to a birthday party.’

Make the most of all the tips you can find to expand your Spanish learning and that includes adapting useful Spanish phrases to suit the moment.

Happy Learning,

Sharon
